Qualitative and quantitative study of copepods in damietta harbor, egypt OceanDocs

The qualitative and quantitative dynamics of the copepod community in Damietta Harbor was studied through zooplankton samples collected monthly from May 2003 to April 2004. The copepods community was represented by 21 species, belonging to calanoids (9 species), cyclopoids (5 species) and harpacticoids (7 species). A few species appeared to be persistent, while the majority of copepods were recorded either intermittently or rarely. The abundance of copepods showed wide range of variations (7x103 - 175 x103 organisms/ m3), and the annual cycle of the standing stock displayed bimodal peaks in June and August-September. Short term variations of zoo plankton community in the West Naubaria Canal, Alexandria, Egypt OceanDocs

The variations of zooplankton structure and abundance were studied at short time intervals in the northern part of the West Naubaria Canal, near the sea side, based on weekly sampling from May 2002 to May 2003 .The community represented high species richness (120 species), and relatively low population density ( annual average 31340 organisms/m.3). Freshwater forms were the major representatives (68 species) of the community, including the sea side station. However, several marine species were reported inside the canal at a long distance from the sea. Vertical migration of zooplankton groups in an Eutrophic bay, Dekhaila harbor, Alexandria, Egypt OceanDocs

Diel vertical migration of different zooplankton groups in Dekhaila Harbor was studied monthly from May 2003 to April 2004. Generally, more groups were found in the surface layer (0-10 m.) than the deeper one (10-20 m.). Some zooplankton groups undergo significant vertical migration at certain time of the year, others showed no clear differences in distribution patterns and exhibited no directed movement patterns. Some species stayed a part of the day within certain layer of the water column, others were randomly dispersed in the whole water column during different hours.
